The Toronto Blue Jays announced Teoscar Hernandez is experiencing stiffness in his left rib cage, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.
Hernandez is expected to miss an extended period of time, reports Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun.
The 27-year-old injured himself while swinging during Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox, Longley adds.
Hernandez's injury is not related to the back tightness he's occasionally experienced over the past couple of weeks, a source told Longley.
The Dominican slugger has enjoyed a breakout 2020 campaign and finds himself in the American League MVP conversation. He owns a .995 OPS with 14 home runs in 39 games for the upstart Blue Jays.
