Rockets' Westbrook out for next 2 games due to quad strain

Houston Rockets star Russell Westbrook will miss the club's next two games after an MRI on Wednesday revealed a strained quadriceps muscle in his right leg, the team announced, according to The Athletic's David Aldridge.

Westbrook's status will be re-evaluated before the playoffs begin next week.

"We'll just see next week," head coach Mike D'Antoni said when asked if Westbrook will be ready for the postseason, according to ESPN's Rachel Nichols. "I don't know right now."

It's unclear when the former MVP suffered the injury, but he was held out of back-to-back games Aug. 6 and 9 due to a right quad contusion.

Westbrook is averaging 24.3 points, 7.8 assists, 6.3 boards, and 1.3 steals across four appearances in the bubble.

Houston enters Wednesday's slate of contests with a one-game lead on the Oklahoma City Thunder for the West's No. 4 seed.
