Minnesota Twins infielder Miguel Sano has denied accusations of kidnapping in his hometown of San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic, according to La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, relaying reporting from Dominican newspaper El Nuevo Diario.

Sano says he is being blackmailed.

Odalis Ramos, a lawyer representing Raudy Omar Sanchez de la Cruz, posted a video Tuesday accusing Sano and three others of kidnapping Sanchez de la Cruz on May 6. The lawyer also said they beat and threatened to hang his client.

Sano told El Nuevo Diario that Sanchez de la Cruz was involved in a sexual assault of Sano's stepbrother. He added that Ramos is requesting 10 million pesos ($170,000) to drop the accusations.

Sano planned to hold a press conference Wednesday, but he postponed it after the Twins told him not to discuss the allegations in the media.

No charges have been filed in the case. Ramos said a hearing has been delayed until June 25.
