Bloom: Delay in Red Sox investigation 'obviously frustrating'

The Boston Red Sox want the results of the investigation into their 2018 championship campaign released to the public.

"As you guys know, given that it is an ongoing process, there obviously isn't much we can or should say about it," Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said of the investigation during an appearance on WEEI's "Ordway, Merloni, and Fauria" radio show. "I would say we still are at the same point where we think everybody is to reserve judgment until we see what comes out of it.

"It is obviously frustrating that we don't have that outcome yet. But with what is going on in the last month, I think it is understandable."

Major League Baseball launched offseason investigations into both the Red Sox and Houston Astros. The league published its findings regarding the 2017 Astros, resulting in the suspension and subsequent firing of Houston's manager and general manager, as well as the forfeiture of two top picks in the next two drafts and a $5-million fine.

The findings also resulted in Alex Cora - who was heavily implicated in the report and served as the Astros' bench coach in 2017 - stepping down as Red Sox manager. Ron Roenicke has since been named interim manager.

On a conference call earlier this week, Roenicke said "it'd be nice to get that done before we come back again," speaking of the investigation, according to Christopher Smith of Masslive.

Rob Manfred has said the investigation into the 2018 Red Sox is complete and is expected to be released before play resumes. However, dealing with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic has taken precedence.
