The Golden State Warriors are "listening to pitches" for All-Star guard D'Angelo Russell, sources told Marc Stein of The New York Times.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, who met with Russell during free agency this past offseason, have made their interest in the former second overall pick "no secret," Stein adds.

Golden State will only consider a deal with the T-Wolves that includes significant draft-pick compensation, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski. Minnesota is believed to be unwilling to part with its unprotected 2020 first-rounder in any deal for Russell.

The New York Knicks have also expressed interest in Russell and have discussed potential trade packages with the Warriors, sources told Charania and Krawczynski. Forward Bobby Portis and guard Frank Ntilikina have both been mentioned in trade talks, reports SNY's Ian Begley.

New York is currently starting Elfrid Payton at the point, but he isn't an ideal long-term solution due to his poor outside shooting.

Russell is close friends with T-Wolves star Karl-Anthony Towns and has openly spoken about how he'd like to play alongside him. Russell would fill Minnesota's glaring hole at point guard and could form a strong pick-and-roll tandem with Towns.

The 23-year-old joined the Warriors this summer via a sign-and-trade deal with the Brooklyn Nets. He's in the first season of a four-year, $117-million contract but has been subject to trade rumors since his arrival due to questions regarding his fit alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

Russell is averaging career highs in points (23.8) and 3-point percentage (38.3%) while also recording 6.3 assists across 32 appearances this season.

Golden State is also widely expected to move Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson before Thursday's trade deadline, according to Stein. Both players are having career seasons and are on expiring contracts.
