Report: Magic apply for disabled player exceptions for Isaac, Aminu
The Orlando Magic have applied for disabled player exceptions for Jonathan Isaac and Al-Farouq Aminu, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Orlando's application suggests the two players, who are both currently out with knee injuries, will not play again this season, Charania notes.
Disabled player exceptions give teams minor financial flexibility to replace a player on the roster who is expected to miss the remainder of the season. If granted by the NBA, Orlando would receive a $4.6-million exception for Aminu and $2.9 million for Isaac, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.
The Magic announced earlier this month that Isaac would be out 8-to-10 weeks after hyperextending his knee on New Year's Day against the Washington Wizards. An MRI later revealed a bone contusion and a posterior lateral corner injury, although there was no damage to his cruciate ligaments.
Aminu was ruled out indefinitely in December after tearing his meniscus. Orlando announced he underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the issue and would be re-evaluated in approximately 12 weeks.
