The Toronto Blue Jays have made competitive offers to left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu and first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The Blue Jays are reportedly a dark horse to land Ryu, the 2019 NL Cy Young runner-up. However, the club has a decent chance to sign Encarnacion, according to Heyman.

It was reported Friday that Toronto and the Dominican slugger are mutually interested in a reunion.

Encarnacion left the Blue Jays as a free agent following the 2016 season after eight years with the club. He became a three-time All-Star in Toronto, hitting 239 home runs and playing a major role in the team's back-to-back trips to the ALCS in 2015 and 2016.

He joined the Cleveland Indians on a three-year, $60-million contract. The Blue Jays reportedly made him a four-year, $80-million offer, but they pivoted quickly and signed Kendrys Morales before Encarnacion could make up his mind.

"I don’t think it was a matter of one or two days more," his agent Paul Kinzer said in December 2016, according to Mark Zwolinski of the Toronto Star. "Maybe a week ... A guy waits his whole career (for free agency). He at least wanted to see who was interested. A lot of teams give (their top free agents) time."

"It's not that there isn’t interest. But we made it clear Edwin wanted to sign with Toronto," Kinzer added at the time. "We did interviews, we said that ... We weren’t blowing smoke. Other teams knew."

If the Blue Jays bring back Encarnacion this time around, he could get an opportunity to reach the vaunted 500-homer mark while playing for his longtime team. He currently sits at 414 career round-trippers entering his age-37 season.
