Report: Twins, Romo agree to 1-year, $5M deal with club option
The Minnesota Twins and reliever Sergio Romo agreed to a one-year, $5-million contract with a $5-million club option for 2020, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The deal is pending a physical, Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports.
Romo posted a 3.43 ERA over 60 1/3 innings with the Twins and Miami Marlins in 2019. The veteran right-hander was acquired by Minnesota in July and helped the team author the third-best bullpen WAR in the American League last season, according to FanGraphs.
The 36-year-old owns 129 career saves with 178 holds across 12 seasons. He has also played for the San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Romo's reported return to the Twins puts the team's payroll at around $103 million, which leaves the club with another $35 million to spend this offseason, according to Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic.
Minnesota still needs to find starting pitching help and are reportedly interested in left-handers Hyun-Jin Ryu and Dallas Keuchel.
