The Los Angeles Dodgers failed to land right-hander Gerrit Cole, who signed a record deal with the New York Yankees on Tuesday, and it appears they're not feeling good about acquiring another top-end free agent, either.

The Dodgers are pessimistic about their chances of landing third baseman Anthony Rendon, reports The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Rendon has a long list of interested suitors to choose from, including the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels, and his former team, the Washington Nationals.

Texas is heavily involved in the Rendon sweepstakes, with Washington remaining a long shot, Rosenthal adds.

Rendon's agent, Scott Boras, is reportedly seeking a seven-year deal for his client, which could put the Dodgers out of the running as they already employ Justin Turner at third. However, Turner said he's willing to switch positions to accommodate Rendon.

With Cole and Stephen Strasburg off the market, Rendon is the top free agent remaining.

He's coming off a third straight season in which he accrued more than six WAR (according to FanGraphs), as well as a third-place finish in National League MVP voting and a World Series championship win.

The seven-year veteran had a career year at the plate, batting .319/.412/.598 with 34 home runs, 44 doubles, and 126 RBIs. He was also an NL Gold Glove finalist.
