The New York Mets are showing interest in Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Pirates owner Bob Nutting recently proclaimed that no player in the organization is untouchable after the club hired new general manager Ben Cherington.

Marte is likely the best trade chip the Pirates possess, and Heyman adds that - despite Nutting's decree - it's uncertain whether the team will deal the star outfielder.

The 31-year-old Marte played 130 games last season in center, hitting .295/.342/.503 with 23 home runs and 25 stolen bases while accruing 3.0 WAR, according to FanGraphs. 2019 marked the sixth time in the past seven years he has been worth 3.0 WAR or more.

Currently, the Mets' outfield is comprised of Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto, and J.D. Davis. Yoenis Cespedes is a potential fourth outfielder for the club if he's healthy.
