Hardy to appeal no-contest result after inhaler dispute
Greg Hardy intends to appeal the no-contest result from his fight with Ben Sosoli at last week's UFC Boston, the former NFL player said Wednesday on Ariel Helwani's MMA Show, per ESPN's Marc Raimondi.
Hardy won his fourth UFC bout via unanimous decision, but the fight was overturned several hours later due to the heavyweight's use of an inhaler between the second and third round.
"I think it's something that we're gonna have to fight out in court and figure it out," said Hardy. "The long and short of it is I had no idea (it was against the rules)."
The 31-year-old believed he was cleared to use the inhaler after gaining approval from the United States Anti-Doping Agency, which is partnered with the UFC.
However, the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission (MSAC) reversed the result because it had not "pre-approved" Hardy using the inhaler during a fight.
Despite the controversy, Hardy is set to make a quick return to the Octagon. He agreed to replace Junior dos Santos and fight Alexander Volkov in the UFC Moscow co-main event Nov. 9.
"I think it makes perfect sense," Hardy said of facing the seventh-ranked Russian. "Let's get him in. Let's test my mettle. Let's fight one of the big-time guys."
