Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Kyle Crick had season-ending extensor tendon repair surgery on his right index finger Tuesday after a clubhouse altercation with closer Felipe Vazquez on Monday, according to a team press release.

Both players have been fined an undisclosed amount for conduct violating their contracts, according to the Pirates.

"The behavior exhibited by these two players last night is unacceptable, inconsistent with the standards expected of a major league player and will not be tolerated by the organization," general manager Neal Huntington said in the release.

This isn't the first time Crick's been involved in a fracas with another member of the club. The Pirates suspended bullpen coach Euclides Rojas for two games back in July after he was reportedly involved in an on-field confrontation with Crick.

That incident apparently happened when Crick complained to Rojas that Vazquez was receiving preferential treatment because he was not on the field with the rest of the pitchers during warmups.

Pittsburgh also handed right-hander Keone Kela a two-game ban in July for a separate altercation involving performance coach Hector Morales and manager Clint Hurdle. Kela reportedly berated Hurdle in front of players and team employees for trying to defuse a loud disagreement between the reliever and Morales.

The Pirates have been involved in multiple brawls with the Cincinnati Reds this season, as well as a few dust-ups with other clubs that have accused them of pitching up-and-in.
