Pirates' Taillon: 'This season's probably a wash for me'
Jameson Taillon's season may be over.
The right-hander recently suffered a setback in his recovery from an elbow injury, as his throwing program was shut down due to a right elbow flexor tendon strain.
He'll be examined by Dr. David Altchek in New York on Monday to determine the extent of his injury, but the 27-year-old believes his campaign could be at risk.
"This season's probably a wash for me," Taillon admitted Thursday, according to MLB.com's Adam Berry.
While the pain in Taillon's forearm feels similar to what forced him to stop pitching in May, he's optimistic the injury is related to a flexor/pronator issue and not his elbow.
"We’re hoping it’s more forearm. That flexor strain, it’s the same symptoms I’ve been feeling," Taillon explained. "So we’re just hoping it’s the same thing that we’ve seen on images in the past. We’re not 100 percent sure, but I’m kind of holding out hope and crossing my fingers that it’s just the flexor still."
Taillon, the No. 2 selection in the 2010 draft, underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in 2014.
He's gone 29-24 in 82 starts for the Pirates, authoring a 3.67 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.
