New Orleans Pelicans guard JJ Redick has been invited to join USA Basketball's roster for the FIBA World Cup and expects to make a decision soon.

"I'm thrilled beyond belief to be considered but also trying to work through our family's transition to New Orleans," Redick told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The veteran sharpshooter inked a two-year, $26.5-million contract with the Pelicans this summer.

The 35-year-old Redick averaged a career-high 18.1 points on 44 percent shooting - including a 39.7 percent clip from distance - across 76 appearances last season for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The former Duke star would be a welcome addition to an American backcourt that has lost a number of stars, including James Harden, Damian Lillard, and Bradley Beal.

Team USA will begin training camp on Aug. 5 and the final roster is set to be announced on Aug. 17.

The United States is the defending World Cup champion and is seeking its sixth title overall. The top two countries from the Americas region will earn automatic berths for the 2020 Olympics.
