Report: Kawhi met with PG on same day of Lakers meeting
It appears Kawhi Leonard's free-agent meetings weren't limited to the three teams pursuing his services.
On the same day the two-time Finals MVP met with Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka, Leonard was said to have met with Paul George at a nearby location, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
The Los Angeles Lakers' brass was originally set to speak in-person with Leonard in El Segundo before he switched the location of their meeting within 24 hours of it, adds Shelburne.
Leonard's uncle, Dennis Robertson, and his agent were with the superstar during his meeting with Buss and Pelinka at the Westlake Village Four Seasons, sources told Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.
The Lakers' meeting with Leonard lasted two hours and was basketball-focused, notes Ganguli. However, the club wasn't aware the Los Angeles Clippers and Raptors were in trade talks to acquire Leonard's preferred running mate from the Oklahoma City Thunder, a source told Ganguli.
Early Saturday morning, the Clippers sent shockwaves through the NBA with their reported acquisitions of Leonard and George. The Clippers feared that the two-time Defensive Player of the Year was prepared to join the Lakers if they didn't land George, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Leonard re-established himself as one of the top players in the game this past campaign. He averaged 30.5 points on 49 percent shooting during the postseason to lead the Toronto Raptors to their first-ever NBA title.
