The New York Mets would have no issues trading right-hander Zack Wheeler to the New York Yankees, sources told Andy Martino of SNY.

However, the Yankees would have to make the strongest offer for the deal to happen, Martino notes.

Trades between the crosstown rivals are rare, but Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen and Yankees GM Brian Cashman reportedly had talks during the offseason about a massive three-team trade that would have sent Noah Syndergaard to the Bronx.

Wheeler started against the Yankees on Tuesday and had a solid outing with trade rumors swirling. The 29-year-old went 6 1/3 innings (116 pitches) while allowing two earned runs with eight strikeouts and just one walk. He retired 15 of the final 17 batters he faced.

For the season, Wheeler has accrued a 4.42 ERA with 123 strikeouts over 114 innings.
