Just when the New York Yankees were getting back to full health, another player went down.

Outfielder Cameron Maybin is headed to the injured list after suffering a left calf strain while running the bases early in Friday's win over the Houston Astros. No timetable for his return was announced, but manager Aaron Boone did not sound optimistic postgame.

"It'll be a while," Boone said of Maybin's upcoming sideline stint, according to James Wagner of The New York Times.

Maybin sustained the injury while jogging around third base on Gary Sanchez's third-inning home run and did not take the field defensively the following inning. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI later Friday to determine the severity of the strain. Boone said Maybin felt a pop while rounding third.

The 32-year-old has been a revelation for the Yankees, who purchased him from Cleveland's Triple-A squad in late April while they dealt with a rash of injuries in the outfield. Maybin's hit .314/.391/.500 with five homers, seven doubles, 14 RBIs, and 15 walks in 42 games for the Yankees.

His injury could help simplify what was shaping up to be a difficult roster decision for New York, which has a glut of outfielders with Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton now reinstated from the IL.
