Report: Bucks trade Snell, No. 30 pick to Pistons for Leuer
The Milwaukee Bucks appear to be getting their books in order before the 2018-19 season officially ends.
In a move tied to salary ramifications, the Bucks have traded wing Tony Snell and the No. 30 pick to the Detroit Pistons for big man Jon Leuer, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Snell saw his role decrease under new head coach Mike Budenholzer this season after being a starter for most of his first two campaigns with Milwaukee. The 27-year-old's playing time dipped from 28.3 minutes per game from 2016-18 to 17.6 minutes in 2018-19 before he dropped out of the rotation altogether in the playoffs.
Leuer is under contract for $9.5 million next season before hitting free agency next summer. As a deep reserve off Dwane Casey's bench, the 30-year-old averaged 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in just under 10 minutes per appearance this past season.
Snell is under contract for $11.4 million for 2019-20 and holds a player option worth $12.2 million in 2020-21. By swapping him for the slightly cheaper Leuer and shedding the cap hold tied to the No. 30 pick, the Bucks have improved their cap situation heading into free agency.
I've got the Bucks now at $14.1M in cap space after this Snell/Leuer swap. That could climb to $19.6M if they waive/stretch Leuer.
