Barnes declines $25.1M player option to become UFA

Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes is declining his $25.1-million player option for next season to become an unrestricted free agent, his agent told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

However, Barnes and the Kings are open to exploring a new long-term deal, sources told Wojnarowski.

Sacramento acquired the 27-year-old prior to the 2019 NBA trade deadline. Barnes averaged 14.3 points per contest on 45.5 percent shooting from the floor - including a 40.8 percent clip from distance - across 28 appearances with the Kings.

He's projected to be one of the top wings available in free agency.

Barnes signed a four-year, $94-million deal with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2016 offseason. Prior to that, he played a significant role in the Golden State Warriors' title run during the 2014-15 season and their second straight NBA Finals appearance the following year.
