Report: Pelicans want pick, player for No. 4 selection; discussed Covington

It appears the New Orleans Pelicans are eyeing at least one more big move.

Executive VP of basketball operations David Griffin is trying to acquire a first-round pick and a player on a good contract in exchange for the No. 4 overall selection in Thursday's draft, according to Stadium's Jeff Goodman.

The Pelicans have already spoken with the Minnesota Timberwolves regarding their 11th overall pick and small forward Robert Covington, a source told Goodman.

Covington was one of the main pieces acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers in the Jimmy Butler trade this past season. The 28-year-old is a prototypical 3-and-D player who averaged 14.5 points, 5.7 boards, and 2.3 steals while shooting 37.2 percent from deep across 22 appearances for the Timberwolves.

New Orleans reportedly acquired the No. 4 selection from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Anthony Davis blockbuster trade. The Pelicans already held the first overall pick in the 2019 draft and are widely expected to select Duke phenom Zion Williamson.
