Report: Kemba commits to Team USA for FIBA World Cup, Davis interested
Kemba Walker has yet to decide if he's returning to the Charlotte Hornets next season, but it appears he's already made up his mind about his international future.
The All-Star guard has committed to play for Team USA in this summer's FIBA World Cup in China, leagues sources told Marc Stein of The New York Times.
There are also strong indications that New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis would like to play, adds Stein, while Houston Rockets All-Star guard James Harden is also expected to be on the tournament roster.
USA Basketball reportedly plans to gauge the interest of former Duke star Zion Williamson in filling one of its 12 roster spots.
Team USA is set to begin training camp in early August. The tournament will run from Aug. 31-Sept. 15, with most NBA teams scheduled to begin training camp on Sept. 30.
The FIBA World Cup will mark Gregg Popovich's first major international tournament as the U.S. head coach. He takes over for Mike Krzyzewski, whose tenure ended after a gold-medal run at the 2016 Olympics.
The Americans are the defending world champions and seek their sixth title overall. The top two countries from the Americas region at the 2019 FIBA World Cup will earn automatic berths in the 2020 Olympics.
