Maurizio Sarri wants to go home.

Days after collecting his first major honor in football, the Italian manager told Chelsea he wants to leave to fill the vacancy at Juventus, according to The Guardian's Dominic Fifield and Fabrizio Romano.

It's understood Sarri personally informed Marina Granovskaia of his decision during a meeting on Friday, telling the club director he would like a return to his homeland and to seize the opportunity to succeed Massimiliano Allegri in Turin.

The 60-year-old Sarri oversaw Wednesday's 4-1 evisceration of Arsenal in the Europa League final, but his single season at Chelsea has been sometimes frustrating; his playing style and selection policy have been regularly derided by sections of the Blues' fan base and media.

Granovskaia is now expected to seek approval from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to allow Sarri to discuss terms with Juventus. The Italian giants will then reportedly buy out the remaining year of Sarri's £5-million-a-season contract and offer him a deal until 2022.

Following his midseason toils at the helm, a positive end to the campaign had apparently encouraged the Chelsea board to retain Sarri's services. That sentiment came despite occasional instances in which the manager seemed to publicly question the hierarchy's running of the club; he recently voiced his reservations regarding the decision to play a charity match against the New England Revolution between the end of the domestic season and the Europa League final.

The London club may consider Allegri as Sarri's replacement, report Fifield and Romano. Former Paris Saint-Germain handler Laurent Blanc and ex-Blues player Frank Lampard, now in charge of Derby County in the Championship, may also be in the running to take the Chelsea helm.
