Kerr: Durant a 'long shot' to play in Game 2
Don't expect Kevin Durant to suit up until at least Game 3.
With the Golden State Warriors forward already ruled out for Thursday's NBA Finals opener against the Toronto Raptors, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said it's a "long shot" that Durant will have a full practice in Toronto, let alone play in Game 2, according to Mark Medina of The Mercury News.
If Durant is ruled out for Game 2, the earliest he could make an appearance in The Finals would be June 5, when the series shifts to California.
"It's tough. He's in the training room while the team is out on the floor," Kerr told assembled media, including 95.7 The Game. "It's a lonely feeling, especially in The Finals, because this is what it's about. This is what everybody works for, trains for.
"To the point when he got hurt he was just having a monster playoffs, so I know this is really difficult for him, but injuries are part of it."
Durant, who did travel with the team to Toronto, hasn't played since May 8 when he strained his right calf in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets.
Though he's set to miss his sixth straight contest in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the 30-year-old still leads all players in postseason scoring with 34.2 points per game. But his teammates have stepped up in his absence, especially Stephen Curry, who's averaged 35.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.6 assists with Durant out of the lineup.
