Rays record smallest crowd ever at Tropicana Field
The Tampa Bay Rays are winning a whole bunch of ball games this season despite a lack of support from fans at home. And, the ugly attendance numbers reached a new low Tuesday.
Only 5,786 people took in the game against the Toronto Blue Jays, which is the lowest crowd ever for Tropicana Field, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. The previous low was on Sept. 5, 2017, when only 6,509 fans attended a contest as a result of a forecasted hurricane.

Tampa Bay is averaging just over 14,500 fans per game in 2019, which is the second lowest in the league, ahead of only the Miami Marlins.
Despite the underwhelming crowds, the Rays (32-19) entered Tuesday's action just two games behind the New York Yankees for first in the AL East.
