Paxton to return Wednesday for start against Padres
The New York Yankees' banged-up roster is about to receive a boost.
James Paxton is set to return from the injured list on Wednesday and take the hill for a start against the San Diego Padres, the pitcher told The Athletic's Lindsey Adler.
The 30-year-old southpaw hasn't pitched since May 3 due to inflammation in his left knee but was cleared to return from the IL after throwing a successful bullpen session Sunday.
"I feel like I'm ready to go," Paxton told MLB.com's Sarah Langs after the session.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone expects Paxton to throw 75-to-80 pitches on Wednesday.
The Yankees' rotation is still without Luis Severino (rotator cuff) and CC Sabathia (knee), as well as depth arms Jordan Montgomery (Tommy John) and Jonathan Loaisiga (shoulder).
Paxton is 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in seven starts this season.
