Morning-line favorite Omaha Beach withdraws from Kentucky Derby
The morning-line favorite for the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby has withdrawn.
Omaha Beach will not race in Saturday's opening leg of the Triple Crown, the event's Twitter account confirmed on Wednesday.
Trainer Richard Mandella told Churchill Downs Racetrack's communications department that entrapped epiglottis was discovered in the 3-year-old colt.
Prior to the announcement, the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook listed Omaha Beach's odds to win at 3-1. With the favorite off the board, the book's updated front-runners are as follows: Game Winner (4-1), Roadster (9-2), Improbable (5-1), Maximum Security (6-1), and Tacitus (8-1).
Bodexpress (40-1) replaces Omaha Beach in the 20-horse field.
Omaha Beach boasts a 3-3-1 record with three straight victories leading up to the Kentucky Derby, including major wins at this year's Arkansas Derby and Rebel Stakes.
