Report: Curry, Harden, Durant unlikely to appear in 'Space Jam 2'
Sneaker contracts could reportedly prevent some of the NBA's top stars from joining LeBron James in "Space Jam 2."
Sources told Tatiana Siegel of the Hollywood Reporter that due to Nike's ties to the "Space Jam" franchise (the 1996 movie was inspired by a Nike ad and James has a deal with the brand), Stephen Curry and James Harden are both unlikely to appear in the new film. Curry is signed to Under Armour, while Harden is under contract with Adidas through 2028.
Kevin Durant, though signed to Nike, is also a long shot for "Space Jam 2" as he's focusing on his own Hollywood efforts, according to Siegel.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported that James was having trouble recruiting stars for the film, but according to Siegel, Warner Bros. is responsible for finding talent.
Sources familiar with the script told Siegel that unlike the original film, "Space Jam 2" will rely less on the Dream Team arc and focus more on James' family life. "Star Trek: Discovery" actress Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast as James' wife and there will reportedly be a best friend character modeled after his business partner Maverick Carter.
