Nationals owner hasn't heard from Harper in months: 'We've moved on'

Whatever slim chances remained of Bryce Harper returning to the Washington Nationals appear to have disappeared.

Nationals owner Mark Lerner said Friday that the organization has not been in touch with the outfielder or his agent Scott Boras for some time.

"I have no clue at this point what they're up to," Lerner told NBC Sports Nationals. "We really haven't heard from them in a couple months."

He added: "We've moved on. As I said back then and we had to. There was no way we could wait around. Bryce, I'm sure will make his decision hopefully in the next few days, but we've filled out our roster and like I said, we wish him nothing but the best."

Lerner's comments echo those from December when he stated he didn't expect Harper to return to the team.

Harper rejected Washington's reported 10-year, $300-million offer at the end of last season. Although they've continued to be linked, the Nationals are now apparently unwilling to give him that type of megadeal.

The Harper sweepstakes appear to have come down to the Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants. Philadelphia is said to be "confident" about its chances of recruiting the 26-year-old superstar.
