Curry gifts custom jerseys to his alma mater

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has returned to his hometown for this year's NBA All-Star Weekend in Charlotte, and before the festivities officially got underway, he made a stop at his nearby alma mater.

Curry was courtside on Friday evening as Davidson donned custom-made jerseys and shoes from his Under Armour line. The Wildcats prevailed 80-72 over Saint Joseph's and Curry celebrated in the student section afterward.

"It's surreal, even to this day," Curry said, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell. "I know I accomplished a lot, but it still doesn't quite sink in. The opportunities that I get to experience now, a program that meant so much to me that gave me my entire, just, basketball and base and foundation and how much I've learned from coach (Bob) McKillop and my teammates and stuff like that when I was on campus. I always look forward to going back and watching them play and being a part of the program any way I can."

Curry's rise to prominence began at Davidson, where the baby-faced assassin led the school to within a game of the NCAA's Final Four in 2008. Curry averaged 32 points per contest on 46.7 percent shooting during the Wildcats' Elite Eight run and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Midwest Region.

He returned for his junior year in 2009 and led the nation in scoring (28.6) en route to being named a consensus first team All-American.

"Steph's fingerprints are all over our program," McKillop told Friedell. "He is very cognizant of the fact he went to Davidson, very grateful for that experience. And makes it an effort to put us front and center in all he does and include us in all he does. And that's kind of rare."
