Washington Wizards guard John Wall will undergo surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon after slipping and falling in his home and is expected to miss approximately 12 months, the team announced Tuesday.

Wall developed an infection after undergoing an operation on Jan. 8 to repair his chronic Achilles issues. The rupture was found during a procedure to clean the infection.

The 28-year-old elected to have a season-ending surgery in December with hopes of avoiding any additional damage.

"If I don't want to deal with the pain or make it any worse and have an opportunity to maybe rupture my whole Achilles' later down the road, you get the surgery and take it out," Wall said on Dec. 31.

The five-time All-Star averaged 20.7 points and 8.7 assists in 32 games this season. His four-year, $170-million extension kicks in for the 2019-20 campaign.

Tomas Satoransky will continue handling point guard duties for the remainder of the year.
