Matt Moore is headed to the Motor City.

The Detroit Tigers and the free-agent left-hander have reportedly agreed to a one-year contract for the 2019 season, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

The deal, which is pending a physical, will pay Moore $2.5 million, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com. A source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand it will also contain incentive clauses.

Moore was once one of the top prospects in baseball and an All-Star starter with the Tampa Bay Rays; in 2013, he earned a ninth-place finish in AL Cy Young voting. He has since struggled to regain his old form since returning from Tommy John surgery four years ago.

This past season Moore pitched for the Texas Rangers, where he put together the worst year of his career. In 102 innings, the 29-year-old posted a 6.79 ERA (71 ERA+), 1.66 WHIP, 86 strikeouts, 41 walks, and minus-1.2 WAR, per Baseball-Reference. Although he began the year in the Rangers' rotation, Moore only started 12 games before being moved to the bullpen in June.

The Tigers are likely hoping he'll be able to find himself on a team that's not expected to have much success. In the possible best-case scenario, a comeback season could lead the club to trade Moore to a contender at the deadline, as they did with Mike Fiers this past year.

Moore owns a career record of 54-56 with a 4.56 ERA (90 ERA+), 1.41 WHIP, and 797 strikeouts across eight major-league seasons with the Rangers, Rays, and San Francisco Giants.
