The Philadelphia 76ers remain patient with Markelle Fultz as the former No. 1 overall pick has his right shoulder examined by specialists this week.

Philadelphia expects Fultz to return to the team and reclaim his role off the bench once a decision is made about the next step for his shoulder, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 20-year-old point guard will reportedly have his examinations extend through Wednesday with a decision coming later in the week.

Recent reports have suggested both parties are unhappy with their current working relationship. The Sixers reportedly don't envision Fultz being a part of their long-term plans while those close to Fultz have reportedly indicated he would prefer a fresh start elsewhere.

Prior to Fultz stepping away, it was evident the team was increasingly favoring T.J. McConnell as its backup point guard. With so much uncertainty surrounding Fultz, Wojnarowski reports Philadelphia has stopped fielding offers for McConnell.

Fultz is averaging 8.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists on 41.9 percent shooting in 19 appearances this season.
