After much deliberation, the New York Yankees have made a decision.

Right-hander Luis Severino will start the American League wild-card game against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday, manager Aaron Boone announced Tuesday, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Boone met with his staff on Saturday night, and eventually decided on the 24-year-old Severino over J.A. Happ and Masahiro Tanaka, according to Arash Madani of Sportsnet.

"I think he's ready for this," Boone said. "Hopefully, he can get us off to a good start tomorrow."

After a first half in which he posted a 14-2 record with a 2.31 ERA, Severino struggled in July (6.58 ERA) and August (4.86 ERA) before turning things around during his final three starts in September.

Severino made two starts against the A's in the regular season. He allowed five earned runs across 2 2/3 innings in his last outing against them on Sept 5.
