Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve will head to the disabled list for the first time in his career.

The team hasn't made an official announcement, but Altuve confirmed the move after his team's 7-3 loss to the Texas Rangers on Saturday, saying he wasn't "really happy about it."

The reigning AL MVP hasn't played since Wednesday because of right knee discomfort.

Astros manager AJ Hinch said a corresponding roster move will be made Sunday and Altuve's DL stint is of the 10-day variety, retroactive to Thursday, according to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart.

This makes the six-time All-Star's earliest potential return date Aug. 5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Altuve has played eight seasons and appeared in 1,086 games without landing on the DL.
