Report: Mavericks re-sign Ferrell to 2-year, $5.3M contract
The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to terms on a two-year, $5.3-million contract with guard Yogi Ferrell, league sources told Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania. The second year of the deal will reportedly become guaranteed if he remains on the roster past July 7, 2019.
The 25-year-old has reportedly been promised the role of backup shooting guard to start the season.
After initially going undrafted and failing to catch on after a 10-game stint with the Brooklyn Nets two seasons ago, Ferrell quickly found a home in Dallas. Upon signing with the Mavericks, he was immediately thrust into the starting lineup, averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 1.9 steals across his first seven games with the team. He was named to the All-Rookie second team at the end of the year.
Overall, Ferrell has averaged 10.6 points, three assists, 2.9 rebounds, and just under a steal per game in 118 appearances with the Mavericks over parts of two seasons.
