The Oakland Athletics are having their best season in years, and instead of trimming payroll, as is custom, the organization may look to spend some dough.

Oakland's front office has had numerous talks with designated hitter Khris Davis' agent about a multi-year contract extension, multiple sources told the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser.

"I’m keeping an open mind," Davis said. "I don’t know too much about this stuff, that’s why I have an agent. I just play. I hope I bring the best with whatever kind of deal I get. The performance is my expertise."

Slusser said the Athletics might need to commit at least three years to Davis on an extension to "sweeten the pot" for the 30-year-old homer-hitting machine, who has 105 dingers in 380 games since joining the Athletics prior to the 2016 season.

Davis is set to become a free agent following the 2019 campaign and is making $10.5 million this year.
