It appears Drew Doughty took matters into his own hands.
The star defenseman reportedly decided not to rely on representation during his contract negotiations with the Los Angeles Kings and saved between $1.75 million and $2.5 million in fees as a result, according to TSN's Frank Seravalli.
Doughty and the Kings agreed on an eight-year extension Friday.
He's normally represented by Newport Sports Management Inc., the mega-firm led by super-agent Don Meehan.
