Matt Harvey concedes 5 runs in brutal relief appearance
The Matt Harvey bullpen experiment isn't going as planned.
In his fourth appearance as a reliever, the right-hander was yanked after pitching two innings. He was on the hook for five earned runs, including a three-run shot off the bat of a red-hot Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies. Harvey, whose 2018 ERA rose from 5.76 to 7.00 in the outing, also issued three walks. He was booed by Mets fans after being lifted from the game.

As evidenced by the picture above, Harvey struggled with his control, and when he was in the strike zone, he was hit hard. Meanwhile, his fastball velocity, which some assumed would rise with a move to the bullpen, was 94 mph on the day. As a starter this season, Harvey averaged 93 mph on his fastball.
To date, Harvey has given up 21 earned runs, including six long balls, to go along with nine walks and 20 strikeouts.
