Report: Former 5-star QB Barnett to transfer from Arizona State
Less than two years after transferring from Alabama to Arizona State, former five-star recruit Blake Barnett will transfer from the Sun Devils, a source told The Arizona Republic's Doug Haller.
As the ESPN No. 1 quarterback recruit in the 2015 class, Barnett redshirted his freshman year and opened 2016 as Alabama's starter. After failing to secure the starting spot, however, the signal-caller left the program.
The 6-foot-5 passer was the Sun Devils' backup quarterback last season behind Manny Wilkins. This spring - with new head coach Herm Edwards at the helm - Barnett battled Dillon Sterling-Cole for No. 2 duties instead of competing to be the starter.
Since he's on pace to graduate this summer, Barnett will likely be eligible to play in 2018. He'll take an official visit to South Florida this weekend, a source told FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman.
