Taijuan Walker has been diagnosed with an injury to the UCL in his right arm. If it's a severe injury, the Arizona Diamondbacks starter could be required to undergo Tommy John surgery,

Walker underwent an MRI, which revealed the damage, and is flying to New York for a second opinion. However, the actual severity of the injury has yet to be determined.

"We're still piecing as much information as possible to come up with the best solution for Taijuan," manager Torey Lovullo told Bob McManaman of AZCentral. "I was just told it was a UCL injury and that's about as much as I know. … He's on his way to getting a second opinion right now as everybody does - I think that's a very wise decision on his part - just to get as much information as we can possibly get to determine what the next steps are.

"I apologize for being vague, but it's very vague right now. Every bit of information that we've gotten is vague."

Walker was initially removed from Saturday's start against the Los Angeles Dodgers with forearm tightness and was sent to the disabled list not long after.

If the worst-case scenario comes to fruition, Tommy John surgery would sideline Walker until partway into 2019.
