Betts, Martinez not interested in Home Run Derby

Add two more of MLB's best to the growing list of players balking at the opportunity to participate in the Home Run Derby.

Both Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez aren't interested in this year's event.

"Hell no," Betts told Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe. "I don't hit home runs in BP. Can you imagine me going against Aaron Judge?"

Unbeknown to Betts, Judge mentioned Tuesday he wouldn't defend his crown in the derby either. That didn't change his mind one bit.

"Hell no," he repeated. "I'm not that kind of hitter."

Martinez's disinterest is more personal. He's apparently still holding a grudge after being passed over in 2015 despite hitting 25 home runs before the All-Star break.

"MLB didn't want me," he told Abraham. "I figured I'd have the option of doing it and they said no. They had other guys they wanted, all these young guys. I was like, 'Forget it. I'll never do it.'"

Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout mentioned in Toronto on Wednesday that he's "probably not" going to participate in the event either, which means the derby could be without four of MLB's most powerful hitters.

NAME HR MLB RANK
Mookie Betts 16 1
J.D. Martinez 15 tied at 2
Mike Trout 14 tied at 5
Aaron Judge 13 tied at 9
