MLS Power Rankings, Week 6: Impact stumble as Orlando roars back to life

Welcome to the 2018 MLS Power Rankings, where we rank each team after each week with consideration to form, latest results, stats, and other intangibles to craft an idea of how things stand in one single table.

Here's how each team ranks after Week 6 of the 2018 season.

1. New York City FC

• Last Week: Bye week
• Next MLS Match: April 11 vs. Real Salt Lake (7:00 p.m. ET)

New York City FC retains the top spot despite taking a week off, due mostly to the fact that Patrick Vieira's side has remained undefeated over five matches.

2. Atlanta United ▲

• Last Week: 5-0 win vs. Los Angeles FC
• Next MLS Match: April 15 vs. NYCFC (6:00 p.m. ET)

Atlanta United earned yet another five-goal victory, the franchise's third since its inception, in a span of just 39 matches. The club leapfrogs Sporting KC as a result.

3. Sporting Kansas City ▼

• Last Week: 2-0 win vs. LA Galaxy
• Next MLS Match: April 15 vs. Seattle (4:00 p.m. ET)

Statues of goalkeeper Tim Melia might not be commissioned quite yet at Sporting KC, though you couldn't blame the team for doing so following his latest clean sheet.

4. Toronto FC

• Last Week: Bye week
• Next MLS Match: April 14 at Colorado (3:00 p.m. ET)

Toronto FC was technically off for the week, but only in MLS action, as a win over Club America in the Champions League proved to be another historic achievement.

5. Vancouver Whitecaps

• Last Week: 2-1 loss vs. Real Salt Lake
• Next MLS Match: April 13 vs. LAFC (10:00 p.m. ET)

The week was less than ideal for the Vancouver Whitecaps, who probably feel hard done by a lack of a red card to RSL's Marcelo Silva in a 2-1 defeat.

6. New York Red Bulls ▲

• Last Week: Bye week
• Next MLS Match: April 14 vs. Montreal (1:00 p.m. ET)

The New York Red Bulls had a week off in order to focus on the Champions League, and will now head home looking to overcome a 1-0 first-leg loss to Chivas.

7. Columbus Crew SC ▼

• Last Week: 1-0 loss vs. Chicago Fire
• Next MLS Match: April 14 at D.C. United (7:00 p.m. ET)

Columbus Crew SC couldn't find any answers against Chicago, and picked up a second straight loss as a result.

8. LA Galaxy

• Last Week: 2-0 loss vs. Sporting Kansas City
• Next MLS Match: April 14 at Chicago (3:30 p.m. ET)

Not even Zlatan Ibrahimovic could overturn a deficit twice in a row for the LA Galaxy, who succumbed to Kansas City with a whimper instead of a roar.

9. Los Angeles FC

• Last Week: 5-0 loss vs. Atlanta United
• Next MLS Match: April 13 at Vancouver (10:00 p.m. ET)

LAFC conceded five goals to Atlanta just one week after letting four goals in against the Galaxy - just growing pains, or are there deeper problems here?

10. Houston Dynamo

• Last Week: Bye week
• Next MLS Match: April 14 at San Jose (10:30 p.m. ET)

The Houston Dynamo took a week off, though growing discontent among fans must have the organization somewhat worried.

11. Chicago Fire

• Last Week: 1-0 win vs. Columbus Crew SC
• Next MLS Match: April 14 vs. LA Galaxy (3:30 p.m. ET)

The Chicago Fire finally posted a win for 2018 courtesy of Nemanja Nikolic. The Bastian Schweinsteiger-at-sweeper experiment is working wonderfully, too.

12. New England Revolution ▲

• Last Week: 4-0 win vs. Montreal Impact
• Next MLS Match: April 14 vs. FC Dallas (7:30 p.m. ET)

Four on the board against Montreal is just what the doctor ordered for the New England Revolution, who will hope to garner attention with consistent results.

13. Orlando City ▲

• Last Week: 3-2 win vs. Portland Timbers
• Next MLS Match: April 13 at Philadelphia (8:00 p.m. ET)

Come-from-behind wins are all the rage at Orlando City, which once again turned around a negative scoreline with a little help from striker Dom Dwyer. Sure, the Lions' defense remains suspect, but it looks like there's something special brewing in Florida.

14. Montreal Impact ▼

• Last Week: 4-0 loss vs. New England Revolution
• Next MLS Match: April 14 at NY Red Bulls (1:00 p.m. ET)

The Montreal Impact suffered a pretty serious loss at the hands of the Revs, a result that was neither expected nor acceptable for new manager Remi Garde.

15. Philadelphia Union ▼

• Last Week: 1-1 draw vs. San Jose Earthquakes
• Next MLS Match: April 13 vs. Orlando (8:00 p.m. ET)

The Philadelphia Union split points with San Jose in a match that did little to inspire further reflection. Alejandro Bedoya scoring was nice, at least.

16. San Jose Earthquakes ▼

• Last Week: 1-1 draw vs. Philadelphia Union
• Next MLS Match: April 14 vs. Houston (10:30 p.m. ET)

The San Jose Earthquakes' new striker, Magnus Eriksson, scored his first MLS goal, but his side couldn't hold on for the victory. Oh well.

17. Minnesota United ▼

• Last Week: Bye week
• Next MLS Match: April 14 at Portland (10:30 p.m. ET)

Minnesota United took the week off, during which we presume the club's front office plotted something villainous to escape from the bottom of the "Most Hated MLS Team" table.

18. FC Dallas

• Last Week: 1-1 draw vs. Colorado Rapids
• Next MLS Match: April 14 at New England (7:30 p.m. ET)

Splitting points with Colorado cannot be classified as much of an achievement these days, so FC Dallas will need a better showing to earn plaudits here.

19. Seattle Sounders

• Last Week: Bye week
• Next MLS Match: April 15 at Sporting KC (4:00 p.m. ET)

The Seattle Sounders took a week off, and we can only hope Brian Schmetzer used that time to remind his team how yellow and red cards work.

20. Real Salt Lake ▲

• Last Week: 2-1 win vs. Vancouver Whitecaps
• Next MLS Match: April 11 at NYCFC (7:00 p.m. ET)

That's more like it from Real Salt Lake, which defeated a Western Conference opponent with a straightforward - if not entirely convincing - 2-1 scoreline.

21. Portland Timbers ▼

• Last Week: 3-2 loss vs. Orlando City
• Next MLS Match: April 14 vs. Minnesota (10:30 p.m. ET)

The Portland Timbers desperately needed their first win of the season, and nearly had it in the bag before blowing it to a resilient Orlando team. Not good.

22. Colorado Rapids ▼

• Last Week: 1-1 draw vs. FC Dallas
• Next MLS Match: April 14 vs. Toronto (3:00 p.m. ET)

The Colorado Rapids held FC Dallas to a 1-1 draw, which seems to be par for the course in 2018 as the team still looks uninspiring on both sides of the ball.

23. D.C. United

• Last Week: Bye week
• Next MLS Match: April 14 vs. Columbus (7:00 p.m. ET)

D.C. United took the week off and inches ever closer to July 14, the day the team will finally move into Audi Field and gift RFK Stadium to the raccoons.
