JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) East Tennessee State coach Randy Sanders will receive a letter of reprimand and will lose one week's pay after slapping a player's helmet during a practice last week.

Athletic director Scott Carter announced Sanders' punishment and said the coach has been reinstated following a university review of the March 30 incident. Sanders had been on paid administrative leave during the review.

According to the incident report, Sanders slapped the player's helmet while scolding him ''for a poor play near the end of practice.'' Carter said Sanders informed him of the incident after the practice.

Sanders said in a statement that ''I accept the decision by the university and I recognize that through my role I have an obligation to lead by example.''
