Report: Lincecum to sign with Rangers
It appears like The Freak may be on his way to the Lone Star State.
Free-agent right-hander Tim Lincecum will sign with the Texas Rangers, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
Heyman's report followed a separate one which claimed Lincecum and the Rangers were deep into talks on a one-year major-league deal, according to Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan, citing sources.
It's possible Lincecum pitches out of the bullpen and he could be a contender for the team's closer job, Passan adds.
The Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers were among the teams interested in the 33-year-old after he threw a showcase in front of roughly 15 teams earlier this month.
Lincecum won back-to-back Cy Young awards in 2008 and '09 with the San Francisco Giants, but didn't pitch in the big leagues last season. He last pitched for the Los Angeles Angels in 2016, making nine starts and struggling to a 9.16 ERA.
