Chicago White Sox third-base prospect Jake Burger - their first-round draft pick in the 2017 draft - had to be carted off the field after suffering a left Achilles tendon injury while running out a ground ball during Monday's Cactus League game against the Oakland Athletics.

The White Sox announced that Burger is now undergoing further evaluation, and his status will be updated on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old, who had doubled in his first at-bat of the game, went down while running down the line about 30 feet from first base and then grabbed at his lower left leg.

After being tended to on the field for several minutes, Burger was helped onto a cart and left the field for further testing. He did not appear to be putting any weight on his left leg.

Burger, who was drafted 11th overall by the White Sox out of Missouri State last June, is ranked as the 10th-best third-base prospect in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline. In his first taste of professional ball last summer he hit .271/.335/.409 with four homers and 27 RBIs over 47 games with Single-A Kannapolis.
