The San Francisco Giants and New York Mets have been two of the busier teams this offseason, and despite already making a number of transactions, neither appears to be done making moves just yet.

With the Giants in need of outfield help and the Mets on the hunt for a second baseman, the two sides discussed a straight-up swap of Joe Panik for Juan Lagares, according to a front-office source of the New York Daily News' Kristie Ackert.

Talks of the swap started Tuesday, according to Ackert, but things appear to have cooled as of Wednesday morning. The Giants apparently want more in return for Panik than just Lagares, while the Mets are concerned about their outfield depth with Michael Conforto continuing to rehab from surgery after dislocating his shoulder last season.

The defensively-gifted Lagares - who won a Gold Glove in 2014 - could help fill the Giants' need for someone to roam the outfield of a spacious AT&T Park, although he only managed to post a .661 OPS in 2018 and has never been much of an offensive force.

After adding third baseman Todd Frazier, the Mets project to use Asdrubal Cabrera at second base, although the 27-year-old Panik - who had similar numbers to Cabrera last season - is younger, more affordable, and under team control for longer.
