Report: Wall, Gortat met to clear air, but more work needed to repair rift

Washington Wizards point guard John Wall and center Marcin Gortat met privately last week to clear the air over recent issues between the two, sources told ESPN's Chris Haynes.

It was the first meeting between the pair since Gortat's cryptic tweet last week, which referred to a "great 'team' victory" over the Toronto Raptors, which came without the injured Wall. The All-Star point guard immediately responded via Twitter and on ESPN's "The Jump."

Despite the meeting, more work is still needed to repair the relationship, sources told Haynes. Wall reportedly sent a text to Gortat after the initial tweet, asking him to direct his concerns privately rather than on social media.

Gortat maintains the tweet wasn't meant to be shade on Wall.

The Wizards have had clubhouse issues in the past. An attempt at a players-only meeting in January ended badly, by the team's own admission. There have been rumors in the past of Wall and shooting guard Bradley Beal not seeing eye-to-eye, although they seem to have moved past that.

Wall is expected to be sidelined until March. The Wizards were rumored to be exploring deals involving Gortat prior to the trade deadline, but nothing materialized.
