The competition for free-agent infielder Eduardo Nunez could land the 30-year-old veteran in the American League East.

Nunez is being checked on by the Tampa Bay Rays, while the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have also shown interest, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, citing sources.

The Rays are also monitoring right-handed bats while listening to offers for pitchers Jake Odorizzi and Alex Colome, Rosenthal adds.

Nunez, a former Yankees and Red Sox player, has been linked to them since mid-December, and has also reportedly drawn interest from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The versatile infielder, who suffered a knee injury late in the 2017 season which he re-aggravated during Game 1 of the ALDS, reportedly worked out in front of Red Sox brass in the Dominican Republic in January and received a clean bill of health.

Nunez split his 2017 season between the San Francisco Giants and Red Sox, slashing .313/.341/.460 with 12 home runs, 58 RBIs, and 24 steals.
