Birmingham native Daniel Sturridge joined West Bromwich Albion on loan until the end of the season on Monday.

The forward will hope to boost his chances of being named in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming World Cup with more first-team minutes in the Black Country. He's made just five league starts for Liverpool in the 2017-18 campaign.

Newcastle United was reportedly interested in brokering its own temporary move for Sturridge.

Sturridge, 28, emerged as a technically gifted forward at Manchester City, and then shifted to Chelsea in 2009 at the end of his contract in Lancashire. Despite impressing on loan at Bolton Wanderers in 2011 - scoring eight goals in 13 Premier League appearances - the hitman found senior recognition hard to come by with the Blues, and eventually headed back up north to join Liverpool for around £12 million in January 2013.

His career has unfortunately hit several hurdles on Merseyside as he has dealt with various injury problems, and has been used sparingly since Jurgen Klopp took over as manager in October 2015. He's won 26 caps for England, scoring eight goals.

West Brom was searching for firepower after a miserly 19 goals has contributed to the club's sorry standing of 19th in the Premier League. There are 14 matches left for Alan Pardew and his new recruit Sturridge to preserve the Baggies' top-flight status, and the striker will also be eligible for West Brom's FA Cup assignments.
