Holloway to defend featherweight title vs. Edgar in UFC 222 closer
Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar are taking another stab at it.
Edgar pulled out of their December date at UFC 218 with a broken orbital bone, but the pair have been booked to square off with Holloway's featherweight crown on the line once more in the main event of UFC 222 on March 3 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The promotion confirmed the bout and its billing Monday following a report from MMAjunkie's Simon Samano.
Holloway ended up facing Jose Aldo on the bill and finished him via third-round TKO in a near-replay of their championship unification bout at UFC 212 in June. The 26-year-old boasts a gaudy 12-fight winning streak, including nine stoppages - six of which have come in Round 3.
Edgar - a former lightweight titleholder - will make his third bid for featherweight gold on a two-fight winning streak. The 36-year-old took a unanimous decision over Jeremy Stephens at UFC 205 before treating Yair Rodriguez to a two-round beating at UFC 211 this past May, improving to 7-2 since moving down to 145 pounds nearly five years ago. A win over Holloway would anoint him as just the fifth two-division champion in promotional history.
